On Thursday 25 July Darren Cossey, from Rochford, presented Livability with a cheque for £3200.
Darren raised the funds by taking part in the Virgin London Marathon in April earlier this year.
The event took place at the headquarters of Olympus Keymed in Southend where Darren works. The company helped sponsor Darren’s challenge.
Darren became disabled after a motorcycle accident in August 1995 and he has since taken part in various charity fundraising initiatives. This is the second year that Darren has taken on marathon challenge to support Livability.
Darren said: “I wanted to take part in the race to challenge myself but also to be able to support other disabled people. Doing the marathon for Livability means that the money I raise will help the charity transform the lives of many disabled people in the UK. Also, when I took part in the event the year before it was the first time that wheelchair users could start the race alongside all the other runners. For me it is a good way to show that disability is no barrier to achievement. I am doing the marathon again next year and this time my target will be to complete it in 4.30 hours. This year I completed the race in just under 5 hours.”
