About me

My name's Peter Thompson and I’m a proud ambassador of Livability. I recently ran the Tour de France route and 44 marathons, in 44 countries, in 44 consecutive days to raise over £21,000 for the charities’ incredible work.

What do you do to enhance your wellbeing?

I mainly love to run. It’s my way to be mindful, to keep active and to get outside and to discover all the benefits that brings. It allows me to travel, to make connections with people and feel part of a wider community.

What barriers do you experience that can threaten your wellbeing?

In the past I have lost the balance between the benefits of running and a focus on competition. That can be easily done and has the reverse effect on the reasons why I started running in the first place. I am now much better at understanding what running gives me and what it can take away, in relation to my wellbeing.

Which connections count in my life

My friends and family are what matters most to me. I am incredibly lucky to have such a strong network around me which is so important to my wellbeing and something I hope I never take for granted. I am also keen to give something back in life and feel I have a responsibility to try and make a difference.

What’s one thing society could do to combat loneliness? 

I work in an organisation that supports isolated and lonely people, so I see loneliness on a daily basis. For me I think the biggest thing is giving people time. We can be incredibly time poor these days with the busy lives we lead but a visit or phone call to a relative or friend can genuinely make someone’s week. To feel someone cares about you is an incredibly powerful feeling and I know there are things that we can’t control in terms of social care and support but we all have the ability to make a difference to the lives of our friends, family, neighbours and even strangers.
