Running the Virgin London Marathon

Budding runner or first-time marathoner? Want to run the marathon of a lifetime with a team that’s all out for supporting disabled and vulnerable people? Find out what it means to run with Team Livability – the difference you’ll make and how we support you through your marathon experience

Why run for us?
Why run for us?

Why run for us?

Run with Livability and become part of a team that is helping to connect people with their community to support disabled and vulnerable people.

Livability’s supporters are at the heart of our work. Together and with you, we can tackle barriers in community life that cause people to become socially isolated. Your run will make it more possible to deliver our care services, help connect people with their communities and work for a more inclusive society.

Here are just a few ways in which the money you and your supporters raise can help to make such a difference to the lives of the people we support. Every step you run training, plus each mile you cover on day – it all adds up. Here’s how:

Growing wellbeing together

With your support, Livability can provide wellbeing programmes such as Flourish – a horticultural therapy project at our Dorset Wellbeing Discovery Centre, Livability Holton Lee. Here the services help people learn new skills, grow confidence and make friends.

Supporting people recovering from brain injury

With your support, Livability is able to provide essential rehabilitation to people that are recovering from brain injury, through our specialist brain injury rehabilitation centre, Livability Icanho.

Helping young people learn and thrive

With your support, Livability helps the learning, education and vocational opportunities for disabled young people, who attend our school and further education college.

Providing people focused care

With your support, Livability delivers vital community activities at our care homes, which enhance people’s lives and create important connections for the people that use our services.

Being Dementia Inclusive through churches

With your support, we are able to train and resource churches to be more inclusive and accessible for people living with dementia.

Community connections tackle isolation

All these things and more add up to better, more livable lives and communities. Research shows that when people enjoy good community connections, their health, life outcomes and wellbeing are far stronger.

Celebrating your achievements – our post-race party!

Our post race party is the perfect place to bask in your post marathon glory.

Running the London Marathon is no mean feat and you and your family and friends are invited to join us at the post-race party. After all the build-up we want to ensure you have what you need once you’ve finished pounding the pavement.

As well as a time to celebrate, this is a great place to meet your family and friends. The finish-line area is extremely busy and it’s hard to find people in the crowds, especially after running 26.2 miles!

We’ll have a team of masseurs ready to give weary legs some well-deserved TLC as well as a celebratory drink and food to refuel before you head home.

It’s also a fab place to meet with other #TeamLivability runners, and of course us too!

Volunteering

Year on year we rely on incredible #TeamLivability volunteers to make day the fun and hugely special day that it should be.

There are many roles to fill – some people like to be at our kerb crews to whoop, whistle and cheer our awesome #TeamLivability runners as they pass by, others snap incredible photo’s of our runners passing iconic landmarks volunteers are a huge help at our post race party too

There really is no atmosphere quite like the London Marathon; seeing hundreds of thousands of spectators lining the route is something you have to experience, either as a runner or from the side-lines armed with balloons, banners, whistles and hearty cheers.

Read Danielle’s story about her London Marathon volunteering experience.

If you can spare a couple of hours, or all day, we would love to hear from you so please get in touch volunteering@livability.org.uk.

I’m looking forward to cheering again this year as I know that my small contribution to someone else’s run, even if that’s just calling out their name, is a huge boost for them and is always so well received.
