Victoria Education Centre wins the digital innovation award at prestigious schools awards

Victoria Education Centre – a school for young disabled people run by Livability – has received the Digital innovation/ed-tech school of the year award at the prestigious 2017 TES Schools Awards.

The awards ceremony took place on Friday 23 June 2017 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Now in its ninth year, the TES Schools Awards celebrates the extraordinary commitment, quality and innovation shown by teachers and support staff across the UK. There are 17 awards categories in the TES schools awards across primary and secondary school and is open to state and independent schools in the UK.

Based in Poole, Livability’s Victoria Education Centre offers specialised, high quality education, therapy and care for young people with physical and learning disabilities aged between 3 and 19. Within Victoria’s vibrant and innovative community, students are enabled to develop life skills to prepare them for life beyond education.

The TES Schools Awards judges said:

‘There are many cynics in education when it comes to the use of technology, but it would be worth their visiting Victoria Education Centre before they come to any final conclusions. This is a place where learning has been directly improved by the use of ed tech.

‘While all of the submissions to this year’s digital innovation category clearly demonstrated a positive impact on educational outcomes, only one of this year’s submissions epitomised technology’s capacity to transform our experience and make habitual what was previously unattainable. For this reason, this year’s award goes to the Victoria Education Centre.’

Following last year’s achievements being shortlisted again in two categories was extraordinary. This is a fantastic tribute to all the young people at VEC, their families and wonderful recognition for the amazing staff whose innovation, dedication, creativity and ongoing hard work are making such a difference to the lives and future success of the students.
